It is a metal netting that is installed on all sides of an elevated heliport to prevent injury to people who may fall. It is a catch net. IT MUST BE INSTALLED, PER SAFETY REGULATIONS, on an elevated heliport whose surface is more than 30 inches above the roof or ground. It must extend outboard from the landing surface at least 5 feet (1.53M) on all sides. It is a framework containing metal screen that is strong enough to support a falling person.
The Downing Heliport Safety Net Assembly consists of uniquely designed modular sections that attach to the sides of the heliport and extend upward at an angle so that the outer edges are not higher than the landing surface.
This means that if you need a Safety Net, the Downing Safety Net Assembly can be engineered to dimensionally fit any size or shape of heliport. The modules are nominally 6 feet in width and 5 feet in depth. The width dimension can be adjusted to accommodate access stairways, ramps, the size and shape of any platform and any special local code requirements.
Each module is made of steel, light in weight but very strong. It weighs about 135 pounds (61.3 kg) and is easily installed to a companion support arm that is attached to the lower side of the heliport.
The complete Assembly is shipped with the modules securely steel banded and strapped to pallets. It arrives at your heliport site ready for assembly. Each module is number stamped to be installed at it's assigned spot. The installation instruction drawings come with the shipment.
You need not spend time in the design. We have already done it for you.
*Some states require the safety net to be 6 feet in depth.
